8 The Ethics of Death

What should we do with a person who is hopelessly trapped by paralysis; or an elderly person overcome by serious declining health, or a baby that is monstrously deformed, or a terminally ill person in acute pain? Would it be more merciful to let them die? Or should we do everything in our power to keep them alive? What if a person with an incurable disease is being kept alive only by a machine? Is it humane to pull the plug? And should I have the right to end my life whenever I choose?

James 5:13-15
