1 Chon 20; Psalm 68; Acts 19
Christ had no interest in gathering vast crowds of professed adherents who would melt away as soon as they found out what following Him actually demanded of them. In our own presentation of Christ’s gospel, therefore, we need to lay a similar stress on the cost of following Christ and make sinners face it soberly before we urge them to respond to the message of free forgiveness. In common honesty, we must not conceal the fact that free forgiveness in one sense will cost everything.
J. I. Packer
"Father, Glorify Your Son, as Your Son Jesus has glorified You. You have given us eternal life. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. Help me to glorify You on earth. And to finish the work You have given Me to do. I pray that you will be glorified in me. Holy Father, keep us through Your name for we have been given to you. Make us one as you are one. I pray that we may have your joy fulfilled in our hearts. I do not pray that You should take us out of the world, but that You should keep us from the evil one. Help us to realize that we are not of this world, just as you are not of the world.
