Cherokee Nation, Freedman Descendants, and African American Protest

Host Dr. J. Kehaulani Kauanui interviews Taylor Keen (Cherokee Nation), former Councilor-At-Large on the tribal council of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, who lost his seat in the June 2007 re-election due to his vocal support for the enfranchisement of Freedmen descendants. Listen in and learn more about the complicated political history of this issue and the social and legal implications of the Cherokee vote to disenfranchise the descendants of the Freedman that has recently caught the attention of the Congressional Black Caucus, The NAACP, and the National Congress of Black Women.
