Well, it doesn’t look like snow… but it does look like frost this morning. Yesterday was my Monday after Easter and it was tough to get going until I realized that I had a bunch of stuff to do! Then I powered up and worked on Discovery Class 2 for a little while and then did Power Point for worship. Lunch was good. I had a turkey, pickle and mayo sandwich. I did do some emailing during the day… and before you know it, Susan picked me up and it was time for Awana Car Making and Men’s Meeting. An interesting night. Now that we have our truck back it has more problems! Susan thinks it’s the transmission… uh oh. Pray hard.

Today’s thought comes from 1 Thessalonians 5:1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
What is the proper posture of prophecy? Did you know that there was one? Posture is important. Right now I’m a bit slumped over as I sit on my couch typing away… bad posture. I just sat up… that’s better. Posture tells us a lot about a person. I can tell, for instance, if my wife is upset, just by her posture! When I’m down, I tend to walk around with my head down, but when something great has just happened, my head is up and I skip down the lane! Let me tell you the improper posture of prophecy; “siesta!” That’s right; it is lying down with hat over the head sleeping. That’s wrong. The correct posture of prophecy is standing like a watchman who is scanning the horizon with binoculars for danger. Your prophetic posture is an indicator. If you don’t believe these things are going to happen and happen soon, you’ll lay your prophetic mindset down for a long snooze. Another word for it is “prophetic apathy.” If you don’t stay alert you will certainly be caught by surprise when they happen. And they will happen! We are not of the night, nor of the darkness that we should allow misty apathy to swoon us to sleep. We are supposed to let our light shine and we are supposed to take the correct prophetic posture. There are two keys to good prophetic posture: #1 Watch. The idea is that we are vigilantly looking for the coming of the Lord. We scan the horizon like a watchman looking for fire. Most of the time, he’s not going to see anything, but that is no reason for dereliction of duty! He’s a watchman! If a fire happens on his watch and he doesn’t catch it, it could be a disaster! Prophetic awareness is a powerful means of keeping us on the right track! Believe in prophecy and you will live right! You will want to be ready for the Lord’s return. 2nd Key to good prophetic posture: Be sober. Sobriety is a metaphor. We’re not just talking about being drunk, we are talking about a careless worldly attitude that says, “eat, drink, party for tomorrow we die!” Instead we should be wise, useful and watchful. So wake up and stand up straight like a watchman scanning the horizon. Jesus is coming again!
Dear Lord. I pray that we would truly be prepared for Your coming. Help me to be watchful and vigilant. I want to have your coming on my mind so that I anticipate it daily. Daily may I look to the skies and say, “maybe today? Perhaps tonight!” Help me to keep a prophetic posture about all the events of the world so that I see your hand everywhere!
"The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace."
