Humiliation is part of the Passion story. Religious leaders mock Jesus, soldiers jeer, people passing by sneer, and even the thieves on either side deride him. And Jesus just takes it.

Jesus endures heavy physical punishment and pain. He accepts people's ironic scorn, taking even their spit and slaps in the face. Why would Jesus take this shaming, humiliating treatment?
