3/18 Jesus is coming Again

I’m yawning this morning… I slept in again. Daylight savings time is not for me! Yesterday I worked on Discovery Class and on our XEE for Evening Service. Mike stopped in to take measurements for the cabinets. Carl and Sonja are back! They saw the hallway for the first time! Man it looks great. Ed and Frieda dropped by with a few tidbits they picked up and wanted to share with me. And I met their son Donny. After work I worked out and talked with Kyle about XEE. I’m getting excited about how it’s all going to work out. Then I went to men’s meeting where Jim talked about outreach. He shared some of the same things we’ll be doing Sunday nights. What a good time.

Today is March 18, this is time with God, I’m Pastor Dennis - I’ve been waiting here for you. Welcome to our life transforming community. You are part of a devotional community where we put Christ first and our commitment is to spend time with each other and Time with God every day.

Today’s Scripture reading is Judges 12; Proverbs 9; Luke 12:1-21

Today’s thought comes from 2 Thessalonians 2:1 Now, brothers, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition

The Kingdom of God is at hand! Jesus is coming soon. We’ve heard that message for 2000 years! Scoffers have come to taunt that message! Some theologians have felt constrained to come up with different ways of looking at it to save face, or to make it fit in with the spirit of the times. But the simple, unvarnished truth is this: Jesus is coming and those who are His will be gathered together to Him. That is what we call “The Day of Christ.” Sometimes the word “day” is used of a larger period of time. There is the day of man… (1 cor 4:3) which is the time period we live in when man thinks he reigns supreme. There are the “Times of the Gentiles” (Luke 21:24) during which foreign powers have ruled Jerusalem. There is the “Day of Jacob’s Trouble” (Jer 30:7) which is a seven year period of tribulation yet to come. There is the “Day of the Lord,” “The Day of His Wrath,” or “The Day of God” which begins with the judgment of the earth at the great tribulation and stretches to the judgment of the earth after the 1000 year tribulation (Rev 6:17, 2 Peter 3:10). And that brings us back to the “Day of Christ.” The Day of Christ is when Jesus comes back for His own. It’s his Coming and Gathering of believers to the Bema Seat of Christ. That is the event that has so fascinated religious folk down though history. Hundreds of predictions have been made as to its exact date. Even in Paul’s time the Thessalonians were disturbed by the preaching of some that that day had come and gone and they were left behind! Here is a primer for you on the event called the Rapture: It won’t happen until #1 there is a massive “falling away” from the church and #2 it won’t happen until the Antichrist is revealed. After that… expect it at any second! But good luck on figuring out those two events… Maybe we should just settle for “Jesus is coming any time!”

Dear Lord Jesus, come quickly! We are waiting expectantly for your return. We look to the skies in anticipation and we realize we need to share our faith with our loved ones and every person who does not know you. We don’t want them to face your judgment. Have mercy and save them we pray!

Trust in the LORD forever, For in the LORD, is everlasting strength
