1.Recording
We provide an easy-to-use application for podcast recording which you can download from our website. First, you should register at www.mypodcast.com and after you are logged into your account, you will see a download link for “Recorder” application.
After you click on the download link, it may take some time before
the application is saved to your computer. After that, Internet Explorer will give you the following prompt:
Should we run the application?
On receiving this prompt Click <Open>.
If you use Opera or Firefox browser, you should see a different prompt, but you should choose to run the application. The file you have downloaded is actually an installer, which will set up “MyPodcast.com Recorder” on your computer. By default application is installed into:
C:\Program Files\MyPodcast Recorder
2.Recording Interface
We have designed a very intuitive interface so that everybody
could easily understand most things just having a look at it. Here we give a full description of each element.
Timeline
Timeline is a visual representation of audio information you have recorded.
Under the timeline you can always see a number of seconds. Blue area represents your recording. The black line is called a “playhead”. It points to the position on the timeline where new recording or playback will start if you hit
or
.
Having finished your recording, you may drag the playhead back to the beginning or to any place in the middle of the recording. You can listen to parts of your podcast again. If you are recording, the new information will be placed over existing one. WARNING - CLICKING RECORD BUTTON WILL ERASE ALL THE AUDIO DATA FROM YOUR CURRENT PLAYHEAD TO THE END OF YOUR RECORD.
There are two more buttons (
and
) which will move your playhead back and forth by 1 second precisely. If you click on one of these buttons during playback, it will stop playback, return playhead to the position where it originally was (before you start playback) and will adjust its position by 1 second. You will find this feature very useful to nail-down exact place to insert advertisement.
Reserve place for advertisement
A button with the callout is the way to earn money on your podcast. When you click on it, it will mark the current position of the playhead. You will see a green triangle
at the bottom of the timeline. When your podcast is published, this will be the exact position, where advertisements will be placed into the episode. You should make a pause during recording, then find that pause and use the button to mark it. You will have to place at least one advertisement spot per episode.
You may also use ad-spot button while recording. Clicking on this button will not stop the recording, but will just mark the current position.
Save episode
This button allows you to save the episode recorded, with the advertising spots being saved as well. Thus, you can create an episode when you are offline and then, in a day, for example, publish it in the Internet.
Open episode
Clicking on this button opens the episodes you have recorded or any of MP3 files stored on your computer. Episodes are opened together with the advertising spots you have saved before. Our system, however, converts your clips into 96Kbit/mono CBR (constant bitrate), sample rate 44,100 Hz.
Playhead position
This indicates the number of seconds between start of recording and playhead position. If you click on the counter, you may enter a new position manually. This is useful for precise navigation.
Mic record level
At any time, this indicator will show intensity of input signal received from your microphone. The bar should be invisible when you are not talking, and it should not reach the red-zone when you are talking. However, it should cover most of the green zone. On the basis of these data you can adjust microphone volume slider (Windows Control Panel) as well as distance and position of your microphone.
Keyboard
You can use keyboard for navigation. “Space” key will stop / start playback, just like Play button. Right and Left keys will adjust playhead position by 1 second. “R” key will start and stop recording. “A” will reserve place for advertising.
3.Publishing
Once you are done with recording and it sounds good, you should use “Publish” button. This button will bring up another window, where you can specify the title of your episode and the description. Application will start uploading the podcast to the server. Upload may take up to an hour, but normally takes a few minutes.
Note that Upload is usually few times slower than Download speed on a typical DSL line. After you start uploading, in few minutes estimated time will be calculated and progress indicator will be shown to you. When the process is finished the browser window will appear, where you can undertake further actions with your episode.
Episodes, that you have created have backup to the folder:
